Co-Conspirators' Comments
What wonderful comments we've recieved from our readers about this fall's fundraiser! Here are a few: Lillian in West Virginia : I've been a subscriber for years. Indeed I am one of the lives that has literally been saved. I had a major breakdown that began in the late 90's, and culminated a year later. HeroicStories was a bright patch on some of my darkest days. For that I thank you with words that are inadequate. This pittance is all I can afford, but my life is worth it, as is someone else's. PLEASE, please, PLEASE don't ever give up or go away. So many peoople NEED this site!! Cristy in Oregon, USA: I'm just sorry that I don't have the money to contribute an amount equal to the value of HeroicStories. Steve in the United Kingdom: It's only a small contribution, but I have some small finance problems of my own. Thank you for brightening my days. Juli in Colorado: I want to express my gratitude for HeroicStories. On September 1, 2004, my son, Charles, who was a soldier stationed in Germany, was killed in a car accident. Since he was driving to his duty station from his barracks, his commanding officer has put in his military records that he died in the line of duty. What has made this even more difficult for me is that his sister, Diana, died of leukemia 14 years ago in September. As a matter of fact, he died three days before what would have been her 21st birthday; he was brought home on the 14th -- the day after he was supposed to fly home on leave. His funeral was on the 17th; Diana's death date was the 22nd, and her funeral was the 26th. So as you can see, Heroic Stories has helped keep me sane over the last month and a half. I really do not know how I have managed to keep anything together over the last few weeks except that I have been able to find humor in the strangest places -- and some not so strange places. Thank you again for HeroicStories. I would be remiss if I had not sent a donation to a publication that has helped me so much. Susan in Alabama, USA: Happy to be a small part of a very large and important group of caring people. Bree in Texas , USA: Hmmmm: 35,000 subscribers in 106 countries and the request for funding is for $35,000.00. My math teacher would be proud to know that I figured out -- all by myself -- that that amounts to ONE WHOLE DOLLAR from each subscriber!! WHERE ELSE can I get such inspiration and motivation to be a better human being for one dollar?? Let's keep HeroicStories going!! And not just by a thread... or on a shoestring, scraping by from issue to issue... let's pay these people for their dedication, hard-work, missed appointments and late hours. I'm signing up to donate my dollar, and volunteering to pay for 10 OTHER readers' share (to make the world a better place, don'tcha know, one Co-Conspirator at a time). Here's an Old-Fashioned, well-tested, tried and true fund-raising device: I personally challenge every one of you Co-Conspirators to do the same! Put in your share (one dollar) and put in any extra you can afford. Skip a cup of coffee for Joyce, Clayton, Bryan, Barbara -- and the other 34,999 subscribers. Where else can $5, $10 or more dollars help so many?? David in Virginia, USA: Just a working stiff, but Heroic Stories provides a valuable and uplifting service. Thanks for all you do! Alain in France: I am more than happy to help and I hope you will reach the target rapidly. Nigel in the United Kingdom: Would give more, but am starting a charity to supply computers to schools & small businesses in Swaziland, including training (provided by me!), so cannot spare much. God bless you all & thank you for an inspiring newsletter. Emma, England, United Kingdom: I've already said when I submitted my story recently that I couldn't give this time - but your comments in the latest HS convinced me that you guys need appreciating properly. Thanks! Adam in Michigan, USA: Thank you for the Stories! Robert (location unknown): I've always felt guilty about getting something for free that brings me to tears of joy so often. Dave (location unknown): Put me on the Co-Conspirators List, please. I'm happy to help. Of course, If caught or captured, the Director will deny any knowledge of this! :-P Terry in Colorado, USA: Thank you so much for the changes you've made in my life. When I despair the most you remind me that not everything is as bad as I think. Sandy in Nebraska, USA: I can not afford a lot but perhaps my little bit will add to a drop in the bucket. Susan: Heart-felt thanks for doing all you do. Allison in Oregon, USA: I wish I could send more. Your stories brighten my day. I love to save them up and read several at once on a day that's gone wrong. Thank you for your dedication to this project, and for all the volunteers who give of their time and talents. Dirk in Canada: I'm just happy to see a source of news that actually provides cheerful and uplifting stories for a change - bad news seems to be the only news the rest of the media wants to cover. $20 isn't much, but I hope it helps! Jerry in Oklahoma, USA: I originally subscribed because it is free. It is definitely worth a lot more. Mark in Texas, USA: Here's a hundred reader's worth. The stories you publish inspire me to act even in small ways. I know that there's more I can do, and you help me want to do it. Mary in Georgia: Here's my pittance for your fundraiser. I've contributed to every HS fundraiser, but almost didn't this time. Unemployed since January 2003, I'm living off student loans and part-time work while I get my M.Ed. For the first time in years I wonder how I'll pay rent, so I've cut luxuries. Even so, I thought about how HS brightens my days, and the encouragement that arrives with each issue. No preaching, no sappy stories, just everyday tales of folks doing little, every-day things that made a difference in someone's life. No condemnation, just encouragement. Stories that show me I'm not alone in reaching out to my fellow man. Comments that make me think, and give me a new perspective on a subject. I pondered my inbox without HS: pretty bleak. So even though I've cancelled all magazine subscriptions, I *have* to support HS, even with a tiny drop in the bucket. If each HS reader found $5 to share, we'd reach the goal in no time, wouldn't we? Justin in California: After the message from an unemployed student (I've been laid off since April, but with a family of 7), I couldn't let this slide by. Here's my thanks (small, it may be) for putting a smile on my face, and sharing such uplifting stories! Lisa in Pennsylvania: This isn't a lot, but I hope it helps. HeroicStories means a lot to me -- it keeps me positive and shows me all the good that is out in our world. Thank you. Bart in Texas: Here's a lucky seven dollars and seventy seven cents for HS. I have enjoyed receiving these stories for quite some time. They are one item I receive in my email that I never delete! Anne Have been a subscriber since almost the beginning and could not imagine not having you there to inspire me to make the world a better place...here's my tiny bit to help you keep on keeping on! Cherith I'm sorry it took so long to get this in. I'm such a procrastinator. But what a great time!! Now my small contribution will be doubled. I really enjoy receiving your stories. I save them up and read them when I really need a lift. Thank you. Barry in (well) Arkansas: No one from Arkansas yet?! How can that be? I'll have to fix that! Kimberly in Washington: Thank you for continually reminding me that so many conspirators are alive and well and reaching for a better tomorrow by making a better today.
